Electrical Periodic Inspection & Testing

It is recommended by the National Caravan Council and under the Approved Workshop Scheme, that caravans or motorhomes over three years old have an electrical Periodic Inspection Report (PIR).

What is a periodic inspection?

A Periodic Inspection is an inspection as to the condition of an existing electrical installation. A periodic inspection from The Caravan Engineer will:

  • reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment that may be overloaded

  • find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards in your electrical installation

  • identify any defective DIY electrical work

  • highlight any lack of earthing or bonding.

  • Test RCD performance

  • Insulation resistance of wiring.

Why is a periodic inspection needed?

Every electrical installation deteriorates with use and age and due to movement of a caravan or motorhome, it is therefore recommended that a periodic inspection and testing is carried out at least every 3 years to ensure your caravan or motorhomes electrics are in top condition.
